New Year's Resolution Ideas for 2014

The New Year is finally here. So it's time to take down the Christmas tree, stop stuffing your face with mince pies, put all that booze away for another day and try to find storage space for all those presents.

Here in the Activity Superstore office, we've been talking about our New Year's resolutions. And while many of us want to lose weight (after stuffing ourselves silly over Christmas), cut down on drinking, eat less chocolate, go out more, be more sociable, and all those other fundamentally wholesome things we know we really should do to become amazing human beings; it's probably not going to happen.

And that's because big changes are a shock to the system.

Yes, we could all join the gym and go every day, live on Ryvita crackers to lose weight, organise an amazing social life and then travel the world!

But what's the real likelihood of such dramatic changes lasting for longer than a week or two?

Let's not kid ourselves here, any change we want to make in our lives needs to be gradual or we'll never stick to it.

So with this in mind, here are 3 simple New Year's Resolution which are much easier to stick to.

Best of all, you don't need to dedicate huge amounts of time, effort or money to do them. And that makes them much more fun, achievable and certainly not a hard slog.

1. Spend Quality Time with Someone
Making an effort to reconnect with an old friend, make new friends or regularly see your family can be wonderfully rewarding in ways you wouldn't expect. Last year we made a point of regularly taking Nanna for afternoon tea and we've all become so much closer because of it. So it needn't be anything grand, expensive or outlandish as the theatre or a weekend away.

2. Relax and De-Stress
If you're feeling fired up about making serious New Year's resolutions, than maybe what you really need is to unwind, relax, de-stress and cheer up a little more. You'd be amazed what a cheap comedy night out with a few friends can do for your positivity. And if you're simply feeling mentally and physically drained after surviving another Christmas spent with your family, then doing nothing all day at a spa every now and then is a New Year's resolution you definitely deserve.

3. Go wild Once in a While!
Whether it's riding roller coasters, swinging from tree to tree or indoor skydiving, adrenaline experiences are a great way to get your pulse racing, shake you awake and enjoying yourself. And if you're not one for that sort of excitement, we highly recommend a day out at Paradise Wildlife Park for a really wild experience.

CONCLUSION

We'd all like to eat healthy, lose weight, exercise more and lead a fantastic social life. But sometimes, when you get home from a tough day, all you want to do is crash on the sofa, gorge yourself on pizza and watch the telly.

The point is that you can make New Year's Resolutions to be a better person without having to force yourself to make drastic changes to your lifestyle. Something as simple as going for a run once a week or having once less pint when you go to the pub can be a simple goal to help you on your way towards bigger changes over time.

Or you could grab one of our gift vouchers and have a grand day out doing something different and enjoying the company of someone special.

Your New Year's resolutions don't need to be so serious!
